How to make a million dollars by providing a new type of web hosting
Well, I'm not really sure that this is a new type of hosting or that it will make a million dollars, but it is worthy of some discussion.
The problem with overselling is that a brochure website might not ever have enough traffic to feel the pain of overselling and a $5/mo plan might be fine. The difficulty is in determining how many clients to load on a shared server. VPS offers some improvement, but what percentage of CPU and RAM will be allocated to a VPS hosting plan so that customers can compare apples to apples and understand if they are getting more performance per $? As customers, we are never given this insight.
So, how can you make more money?
Have VPS plans that clearly state min and max CPU and RAM allocations, where you pay more to get more. Having visibility into those allocations would make true competition thrive and there would be not discussion of overselling, just that you get what you pay for.
Thoughts?
